Important: Abanka (formerly Abanka Vipa) no longer operates as an independent bank in Slovenia. In September 2020, Abanka merged with Nova KBM in what was the largest bank merger in Slovenian history. Nova KBM was subsequently acquired by OTP Bank, and former Abanka customers now use OTP banka Slovenia for their banking needs.
What Happened to Abanka?
Abanka was the third-largest bank in Slovenia before its acquisition by Nova KBM (the second-largest) in 2020 for €444 million. The merger created a combined entity with:
- Over €8.5 billion in assets
- More than 1,000 banking touchpoints across Slovenia
- 960+ ATMs, branches, and post office banking locations
The IT systems of both banks were unified in early 2021, and full integration was completed by December 2021. OTP Group later acquired Nova KBM, and the combined bank now operates as OTP banka Slovenia.
