The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is a pan-African multilateral financial institution established in 1993. The Bank commenced operations on September 30, 1994, following the signature of a Headquarters Agreement with the Egyptian government. Its mandate is to promote, finance, and facilitate intra- and extra-African trade.
Financial Standing (2024-2026): Total assets and guarantees reached $40.1 billion, with shareholder funds of $7.2 billion. The bank holds investment grade ratings from Moody’s (Baa2), Fitch (BBB-), GCR (A), JCR (A-), and CCXI (AAA).
New Headquarters Development
In December 2026, Afreximbank broke ground on the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Egypt’s New Capital, approximately 45 kilometers east of Cairo. This 156,147 square metre facility will serve as the Bank’s new global headquarters, scheduled for completion in early 2029.
