Important Notice: Asya Katılım Bankası A.Ş. (Bank Asya) had its banking license revoked by Turkish regulators in July 2016 and was declared bankrupt in November 2017. This bank no longer operates.

Timeline of Bank Asya’s Closure

  • 1996: Bank Asya founded as Asya Finans Kurumu
  • 2005: Name changed to Asya Katılım Bankası A.Ş.
  • February 2015: Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) transferred 63% of shares to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF)
  • July 22, 2016: Banking license cancelled by BDDK after failed sale attempts
  • November 16, 2017: Bankruptcy order issued by Istanbul 1st Basic Commercial Court
