Bank History

Banca Monte Parma was one of the oldest banks in the world, founded in Parma in 1488 as “Mons Pietatis Almae Civitatis Parmae” by the Franciscan friar Bernardino of Feltre. The bank operated for over 500 years, primarily serving the provinces of Parma, Piacenza, and Reggio Emilia.


Acquisition Timeline

  • July 2011: Intesa Sanpaolo acquired shares from various holders, reaching 60.8% ownership
  • December 2014: Intesa Sanpaolo acquired an additional 20% from foundations, reaching 98.62%
  • April 17, 2015: Acquisition completed
  • July 20, 2015: Banca Monte Parma fully merged into Intesa Sanpaolo (along with Banca di Trento e Bolzano)
