UT Bank collapsed in August 2017 after the Bank of Ghana revoked its license due to severe undercapitalization. The bank’s assets and liabilities were transferred to GCB Bank.

What Happened to UT Bank?

UT Bank was one of the casualties of Ghana’s 2017-2020 banking crisis. Along with Capital Bank, it was the first wave of bank failures that would eventually see nine banks collapse and over 400 financial institutions shut down.

  • Reason: Severe undercapitalization and liquidity problems
  • Successor: GCB Bank absorbed UT Bank customers
