Rebranding in 2011
Bank al Etihads services to consumers and businesses have been provided for over 40 years in Jordan, providing loans, credit and investment services, savings accounts, etc. Jordanian lender Bank al Etihad changed its name to Bank al Etihad in 2011 and rebranded, expanding its offerings with new services in order to reach the growing retail and small and medium-sized enterprise markets in Jordan. Bank al Etihads 2011 rebranding came following a four-year partnership with McKinsey, the management consultancy, in which partners worked to develop a new strategy focusing on the banks strengths in business loans, while giving the institution the full array of tools needed to access Jordans growing retail and SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) markets.
Even with the stronger offerings from Bank Al Etihads retail solutions, the bank remains focused on its business banking customers, for whom it offers overdraft services, discounted bills, commercial loans, trade financing, and credit cards. In addition to providing women with financial and non-financial solutions in Jordan via its Shorouq platform, -Bank al Etihad has adopted already several practices to support its female employees. Bank al Etihad was established in 1978 as a Jordanian bank and financial services organisation, with family and human values as a central part of its operations. The new facility facilitates greater access to financing for local businesses, and will enable Bank al Etihad in Jordan to meet its customers financial needs more effectively.
Risk sharing
To enhance competitiveness of Jordanian businesses by improving access to financing, EBRD and Bank al Etihad in Jordan are joining forces in a $20-million risk-sharing arrangement. Amman, Jordan, March 27, 2014 – The International Finance Corporation, member of the World Bank Group, signed a deal with Bank al Etihad to assist with expanding financial products and services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan, increasing employment, and encouraging economic growth. The initiative is part of the IFCs Advisory Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises in Banks, a program providing advisory services to assist banks to establish a sustainable, viable commercial service for small and medium enterprises across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This event is the first annual meeting of the EBRD held in the banks newest region, the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, where Jordan is the leading commercial center.
The Corporate Banking Division manages loans and other credit facilities and financing, as well as deposits and current accounts, for business and institutional clients. It is the international system used by banks to assist them to make sure that payments are processed, transferred, and made properly. Drawing upon Nadiya Al-Saeeds expertise in the public sector, she has made it a point to work towards solutions to enable women, for example, launching the Shorouq Womens Market Program at Bank al-Etihad, which was Jordans first and only comprehensive women’s banking offering, in 2014. The long list of achievements that Nadia Al Saeed can testify to does not seem to be ending, and one of the early statements made by Jordans former minister of information and communications technology (ICT) and the current managing director of Jordans Bank al Etihad, during my interview with her, hinted towards the kind of leadership mentality that has been crucial for all of the successes that she has seen. Indeed, in Jordan, Nadia Al Saeed is something of a pioneer when it comes to women in Jordans labor force, with a 2020 World Bank report stating that womens economic participation stands at 15%, among the lowest rates globally.
