I would see this start-up being a positive development, since it means that Cathay Pacific will be able to keep services running on a few of its thinner routes, instead of having to move all of them over to the lower-cost operator, Hong Kong Express. June 14 (Reuters) – Hong Kongs Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (0293.HK) is expecting lower first-half losses compared with a year ago, driven by stronger cargo and cost-cutting measures, Cathay said Tuesday, cautioning that losses will remain substantial this year. The cuts mean about 5,300 Hong Kong-based employees are being made redundant, with about 600 employees outside Hong Kong potentially affected as well, depending on local regulatory requirements.
