When searching Turkish Airlines, simply choose award tickets — book one using miles — at the top-right corner of your search field, if you are planning on flying a Turkish Airlines flight. When calling Turkish Miles & Smiles to book your award ticket on the phone, you will have to be ready to tell the agents exactly what flights you want, then give them a piece of information, one segment at a time. Whether flying Turkish Airlines themselves or booking with one of its myriad partner airlines, you will usually find one of the lowest redemption rates available via Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles — just a fraction of what other airlines charge for the exact same flights. You will have to use a separate online search tool depending on if you are looking to redeem miles for flights with Turkish Airlines itself or with a Star Alliance partner airline like United.

Because the airline is a Star Alliance member, you can redeem their miles for flights on their partners airlines around the world. As a member, you can book award flights, redeem miles toward upgrades, and potentially earn miles on your credit card transactions. Because Turkish Airlines is a Star Alliance member, you can use its miles to book flights with partner airlines to destinations around the world. You can use miles to book flights on over two dozen partners, including United Airlines, Air China, and Air Canada.

The obvious way to get miles on Turkish Airlines is by creating a Miles & Smiles account, then putting every flight you take with Turkish Airlines, or another Star Alliance airline such as United, TAP or Lufthansa, in your account. For example, when flying on United Airlines, the amount of Miles & Smiles miles you are eligible for is a percentage of the actual miles covered on the flight. Simply click your airlines logo to bring up a chart showing you how many miles you could earn from flying. You can use their award charts based on regions to find out the amount of miles you need in order to redeem your ticket.

Once you have miles on your account, you will have to call to book your award. Up to 50 are posted immediately in your account, so selling may be a way to pad your account for the prize. If you expand the award ticket table of promo after landing at Turkish Airlines awards chart page, you will see how many miles are required to book return tickets from various regions on a Saver Award tier. First, you will have to realize that booking award flights using Turkish miles is slightly different from booking an award ticket using Delta SkyMiles or United miles.

For the other airlines who actually do charge a fuel surcharge, this charge is pretty reasonable when booked using Turkish miles, considering its incredible award rates. Flying with a Lufthansa group airline over the pond would cost you an arm and a leg on fees when using Turkish miles. For instance, this Turkish Airlines flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Muscat (MCT) via Istanbul (IST) is only 47,000 miles, plus about $233 in taxes and fees each way.

Using Turkish Miles & Smiles, you could unlock that possibility for an excellent, longer 80,500-mile first-class one-way trip across much of Western Europe. The one-way ticket is available at 750 miles, with no fuel surcharge, so expect to pay around $5-20 USD for a taste of Hawaii.

Some are priced at more than $11K online, with no reason given (the same route is available for booking by phone or email, at 7,500 miles per way). These flights can be routes through Europe, including cities such as London, Istanbul, etc., and they represent extreme value considering that most airlines are charging much more for the U.S.-Europe portion alone. International first-class is not available on Turkish websites, and it might not be available by phone or email.

While some airlines offer similar benefits to first-class passengers, the unique feature is that the benefit is also available to economy-class passengers who transit Istanbul airport via a Turkish Airlines flight. While almost every airline will take you to wherever you need to be, there are a couple features on Turkish Airlines that set them apart.

Turkish Airlines has a domestic and regional network across Turkey and across the Middle East and Africa, and international flights in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Turkish Cargo is the carriers cargo affiliate, serving more than 100 destinations across its network. Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles program has many offers that we like, including sweet spot deals for U.S. flights to Hawaii, or excellent redemption rates with partners like United, Lufthansa, and even Turkish Airlines.

To get Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles without flying, there are now various credit cards that let you transfer points to the program, creating an instant pile of miles, regardless if you have ever flown Turkish Airlines. You cannot use Turkish Miles & Smiles to book award seats, which are only available for U.S. Airlines credit card holders or U.S. Elite members – only saver availability, which you will see if you are not signed into your U.S. account, will be available for Turkish. Fly United Airlines from mainland U.S. to Hawaii and earn 10,000 miles in economy or 15,000 miles in business.

Miles & Smiles redemption form also requires your birthdate, email, telephone number, drivers license number, credit card information, and a signature. After you input your credit card information, a representative comes in and verifies the first 4 and last 4 digits of your card number as well as your Miles & Smiles number, and then transfers you to an automated prompt for entering in your Miles & Smiles PIN.
