Middle East Airlines is the leading carrier in Lebanon, which is committed to serving a wide variety of domestic and international flights. MEA (Middle East Airlines) is a Lebanon-based national carrier providing aviation services to more than 31 destinations worldwide. Turkish Airlines, Emirates and FlyDubai have a substantial presence in the Lebanon market, as well as fellow SkyTeam members Air France and Saudia. Regionally, the best airline overall in the Middle East is Qatar Airways, and for Africa, that is Air Austral, a tiny carrier based on the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean. All these developments were bad news for three super-connector airlines based in the Middle East, Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways Emirates Qatar Airways. They have been complaining about the unfair competition of Emirati, Etihad, and Qatar Airways carriers in the Middle East, who, they claim, are receiving massive state subsidies, putting the domestic carriers at a competitive disadvantage. If anything, Emiratis know Qatar Airways executives would find it difficult to complain about unfair competition from the Middle Eastern airlines when one of them is part of their ownership. Middle Eastern airlines are slowly buying pieces from European airlines, seemingly as a way of closing down airlines as they seek expansion. Globally, Americas biggest carriers – embroiled in escalating disputes with the super-connectors, who are accused of receiving government subsidies – could similarly be expected to pick up international passengers, who will no longer have a choice to fly on those Middle Eastern airlines. One of the main goals for the expansion of the Middle Eastern airlines is to get more direct flights into the United States, ideally from Europe.
The airlines jets cannot now fly through Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, or Bahrain, forcing Qatar Airways to use circuitous routes which would increase flight costs and length substantially. Much of the global airlines industrys growth has come from the Open Skies agreements, which opened more international routes to more carriers. The airline is also planning on starting an Arabesk Airlines alliance with six other Arab carriers.
Their future plans involve listing around 25% of its shares on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) under a longer-term plan of full privatization of the airline. Because both airlines aim is not to make profits from flying, but to place their countries/cities on the world map, in order to attempt to create a non-oil economy in their respective countries.

Opinion data on the subject level provides an understanding of the strengths at Qatar Airways, with the survey showing Qatar Airwayss reputation in terms of airport experience, baggage handling, aesthetics, on-flight facilities, on-flight services, price, turnaround times, special offers/promotions, and employees outperformed competitors across a three-month period.
To understand more about drivers of emotions toward major airlines across the Middle East (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Saudia) Emiratis Qatar Airways Saudia, we conducted detailed analytics on more than 500,000 mentions during the three-month period. For the study, four of the main airlines in the Middle East–Qatar Airways, Etihad, Emirates, and Saudia–were analysed across social media, capturing over half a million mentions in online both in English and Arabic during March-May 2017.
MEA has also complained about being vulnerable to competition from Middle Eastern and European carriers due to Lebanons Open Skies policy. Even the top-ranked operator in the country, Virgin America (25th), is nowhere near a Middle Eastern super-connector (and the countrys top-ranked carrier is also being eaten up by Alaska Airlines — 60th).
